President Ali Commends Strong Guyana/Canada Relations at Canada Day Celebration

During the celebration of Canada Day, President Dr. Irfaan Ali expressed his appreciation for the fruitful collaboration between Guyana and Canada, which continues to bring significant benefits to Guyanese citizens.

He highlighted the essential areas of cooperation, including technical projects, capacity-building programs, and support in various sectors such as human resources, community and judicial development, security, and energy.

Canada’s High Commissioner, Mark Berman, reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to supporting Guyana’s growth and development.

He emphasized Canada’s strategic approach to adapt its international programming to bolster Guyana’s progress.

Over the past year, Canada funded nearly 10 million dollars in international assistance programming specifically targeting Guyana and one notable initiative is the partnership with Canadian University, McMaster, and a health-focused organization rooted in Guyana, working on delivering maternal, newborn, and child health project in the Guyana hinterland.

President Ali underscored the strong historical people-to-people ties that form the foundation of the bilateral relations between the two countries. He expressed the country’s determination to further enhance these ties by fostering increased trade and investments between Guyana and Canada in the future.

The President hailed the collaboration between the governments and peoples of Guyana and Canada, recognizing its role in driving resilient and sustainable development in his nation.
