GPF Celebrates 184th Anniversary

A traditional Drumhead Church Service on Saturday ushered in the Guyana Police Force’s 184th anniversary.

The event, which marked the commencement of a month of activities planned by the GPF, saw the Prime Minister, Mark Phillips in attendance. It was held at the Police Officers Mess, Eve Leary.

During the ceremony, sermons from the three main religious groups were delivered, and their messages were one of selflessness, kindness, good relations, mentorship/leadership, teamwork and, most importantly integrity.

To this end, the ranks of the Guyana Police Force were charged to practice same.

Reverend Patrick Doolichand said “some of you might be having storms in your life, you are doing all the right things, but it is very critical for you to understand that you are not the problem, the people around you might be the problem and this is why the bible challenges us that you need to understand that you are not great by yourself, people will have to help you to become grate and therefore it is your responsibility to choose the association that challenges us to greatness.”

Iman Warren Barlow, the Officiating Celebrant said “In giving, we never loose, in fact we gain satisfaction and blessings. Selfishness brings regret and remorse, we must give from the soul so when we lead and live a life of serving God almighty and we are kind, and we have …attitude and we are selfless, God Almighty rewards us immensely and tremendously.”

In closing, Pandit Seeram Madray said “My message to you this morning even if you’re in a position don’t forget the lord.”

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Calvin Brutus highlighted the significance of the Drumhead Service.

Also present at the event were Minister of Home Affairs, Robeson Benn, Heads of the Services, Former Commissioners of Police and other dignitaries.
