Gov’t will not sell transported, ancestral lands- VP to Plaisance

Vice-President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo has dispelled reports that the government is trying to sell off ancestral and transported lands in Plaisance, East Coast Demerara.

This claim was made in Plaisance, where the Vice President says there is an impending audit of the Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC). He posited that this is the real cause of worry for the Opposition, which has resulted in the fallacy being peddled.

During Jagdeo’s engagement with residents of the village on Tuesday evening, there was an ongoing protest by a group outside the venue, chanting “Plaisance is not for sale.”

Dr. Jagdeo maintained that the rumors and protest were the Opposition’s tactics to distract from the planned audit of the Plaisance NDC, and while they may continue to try to prevent the Government from engaging the people within their communities, particularly those considered strongholds, the Government intends to do the opposite.

He says the Opposition will not sway the Government from its goal of working with every single community, across Guyana.
