Close to a hundred residents of Linden have recently celebrated their graduation from various training programs facilitated by the Board of Industrial Training (BIT).

The event marks a significant milestone in their pursuit of professional development and enhancement of vocational skills.

The graduation ceremony was characterized by a call to action for the graduates to uphold discipline and dedication as they transition into the workforce or explore entrepreneurial ventures.

With enthusiasm and determination, the newly certified individuals are poised to contribute to the economic growth and industrial development of the region.

During the training period, participants were equipped with essential skills in several key areas including Welding and Fabrication, Electrical Installation, Small Engine Repairs, Joinery, and Heavy-Duty Machine Operation.

This diverse skill set positions them favorably in the job market, providing opportunities for employment in various sectors.

Joseph Hamilton, the Minister of Labour, delivered an inspiring address to the graduates, urging them to embrace the concept of multi-skilling in today’s competitive job landscape.

He emphasized that relying solely on a single skill is no longer sufficient and encouraged the graduates to aspire to be multi-skilled and multi-talented professionals.

Notably, Minister Hamilton commended the increasing number of women participating in traditionally male-dominated trades.

He underscored BIT’s commitment to gender equality and empowerment, highlighting the importance of inclusivity in vocational training programs.

Dwight John, the Regional Executive Officer of Region 10, also took the opportunity to commend BIT for its dedication to skills development within the community.

He acknowledged the organization’s efforts in certifying over a thousand residents in various skill sets since 2021, indicating a significant investment in human capital development.

Expressing their appreciation for the training opportunity, graduates shared their experiences and aspirations for the future.

Mackeda Richardson, one of the graduates, described the training as enriching and emphasized the importance of striving for excellence in all endeavors.

Colin Bascom, another graduate, echoed similar sentiments, stating that the journey was incredible and emphasized the need to continually develop oneself to achieve success in today’s dynamic world.

Looking forward, Tenesha Dennis-Pollydore, Technical Officer for BIT Region 10, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming batch of training sessions.

She reiterated BIT’s commitment to providing quality vocational training and highlighted the organization’s role in fostering continuous skills development within the community.

The graduation ceremony serves as a testament to the effectiveness of BIT’s training programs in equipping residents with practical skills essential for employment and entrepreneurship.

As Linden residents embark on their professional journeys, they carry with them the knowledge and expertise gained through the BIT training, poised to make meaningful contributions to the region’s industrial and economic landscape.
