In the 2025 national budget, a significant allocation of 88 billion dollars has been earmarked to advance and diversify Guyana’s energy sector.

The funds, announced by Minister of Finance Dr. Ashni Singh, are aimed at expanding ongoing projects and introducing new initiatives to enhance the country’s energy infrastructure.

A key focus of this year’s budget is the continuation of the Gas-to-Energy project, with phase two set to increase the supply of power to the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) company.

This phase will see an additional 250 megawatts of energy being supplied under a power purchase agreement, further strengthening the country’s energy generation capacity.

In addition to the Gas-to-Energy project, Dr. Singh highlighted other major energy projects, including the operationalization of hydropower plants and the development of solar farms in several regions across the country.

These renewable energy initiatives aim to improve the power supply to citizens while prioritizing clean energy sources.

Minister Singh assured that the energy projects planned for 2025 would benefit communities across Guyana, including Amerindian communities, with projects like the solar farms in Berbice and Linden specifically designed to serve these areas.

This robust investment in the energy sector is expected to drive further growth and development, positioning Guyana as a leader in sustainable energy production in the region.
