The Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission says it is accelerating efforts to make more land available for housing and other major development projects across the country.
The announcement came as the commission hosted its anniversary and staff awards ceremony at its Durban Backlands headquarters.
As Guyana’s development continues at a rapid pace, the Guyana Lands and Surveys Commission says it is expanding its work to ensure sufficient lands are available to meet growing demand.
Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer, Enrique Monize said the agency is currently preparing thousands of acres for the Central Housing and Planning Authority.
“We are currently working on 8,000 acres more land for this year for the CHPA to help them to bring their backlog in other regions, except Region Four, to zero,” he said.
He added that the commission is also strengthening long-term planning to ensure sustainable development keeps pace with the country’s growth.
“We continue to provide and survey land for every aspect of development that is currently unfolding in Guyana housing, hospitals, schools, waste management sites and so on,” he explained.
The Commissioner added that the agency will also prepare new land use plans for Regions Three and Four while updating the draft National Land Use Policy to guide sustainable land management as Guyana continues to expand.
