The Yarrowkabra Secondary School, a $790-million investment, has officially been commissioned, marking a significant milestone in the Ministry of Education’s goal towards achieving universal secondary education in Guyana.

This new institution brings closure to the seven remaining Primary Tops on the Soesdyke-Linden Highway, accommodating around 1,000 students and employing 68 teachers.

The state-of-the-art school includes nine buildings equipped with laboratories, industrial arts spaces, a main lecture hall, and other essential facilities.

Education Minister Priya Manickchand highlighted the positive impact the school is already having on attendance rates, with plans for additional classrooms to accommodate the growing student population.

President Dr. Irfaan Ali reaffirmed his government’s commitment to providing not only modern school facilities but also ensuring that these institutions offer high-quality education that promotes academic excellence across all regions.

The new school will focus on core areas such as Entrepreneurship, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Volunteerism, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics).

The Yarrowkabra Secondary School is part of the government’s broader vision to equip students with the skills needed for Guyana’s modern economy, ensuring that every child has access to equitable and quality education.
