In a significant milestone for infrastructure development, a total of 222 contracts with a combined value of approximately 7.8 billion dollars were formally signed for road construction projects on the East Coast of Demerara.

This ambitious undertaking is in line with the recent commitments made by Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo.

The initiative represents a monumental addition to the nearly 4,000 roads that have been constructed since the year 2020, underscoring the government’s unwavering dedication to enhancing the country’s transportation network.

This endeavor is identified as phase one of the project, with an additional 78 contracts set to be finalized in the near future.

This fulfills the promise of completing a total of 300 roads, benefiting both urban and rural communities.

Minister within the Public Works Ministry, Hon. Deodat Indar, urged contractors to meticulously adhere to the project’s specifications, source materials from reputable vendors, and collaborate closely with local residents to ensure the highest quality of workmanship and adherence to set timelines.

Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Hon. Anil Nandlall, expressed pride in the government’s achievement in surpassing its manifesto commitments.

He emphasized that there is no discrimination when it comes to infrastructural development, affirming the government’s commitment to equitable progress across all regions.

These newly signed contracts will work in synergy with existing initiatives, including the construction of 300 roads in Region Six and an additional 100 on the East Bank of Demerara, establishing a comprehensive and well-connected infrastructural network.

This massive endeavor marks a pivotal moment in Guyana’s pursuit of robust infrastructure, promising a brighter and more accessible future for its citizens.
