The Ministry of Public Works has awarded 61 contracts totaling $162 million for road rehabilitation in Bartica, Region Seven.
Each contract, valued between $1.8 million and $2.5 million, has been allocated to small contractors residing in the region, with all works slated for completion by December 31, 2024.
The contracts, distributed during a recent visit by the Ministry, aim to enhance the township’s infrastructure while creating job opportunities for approximately 300 residents.
Contractors expressed gratitude for the initiative, noting its potential to uplift both individuals and the community at large.
The Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill, emphasized the importance of prudent financial management to ensure timely completion of quality roadworks.
To facilitate this, contractors will receive 50% of their contract sum as an advance once paperwork is finalized.
The initiative has been praised by local leaders, including Bartica Mayor Anthony Murray and Regional Chairman Kenneth Williams, who highlighted the economic benefits for the region.
The roadworks are expected to significantly improve Bartica’s infrastructure, contributing to the community’s development in time for the holiday season.
