A newly commissioned $528 million pump station in Andrews, Region Two, is set to significantly enhance flood prevention and agricultural irrigation in the region.
The state-of-the-art facility, which is designed to drain up to 100 cubic feet of water per second, is a major investment aimed at addressing flooding concerns, particularly during the rainy season, and supporting the local agricultural sector.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha, alongside regional officials.
The pump station is expected to play a critical role in the economic development of the area, especially in facilitating improved agricultural activities.
It is also seen as an essential infrastructure improvement for Region Two, enhancing the region’s ability to manage water resources effectively.
The project was awarded to the company H. Naught and Sons, and the pump station will be operated and maintained by the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority (NDIA).
The development is seen as a significant contribution to flood prevention efforts, which have been a challenge in the region in previous years.
In addition to the pump station, the government has been focusing on improving agricultural infrastructure across the country, particularly in areas prone to flooding.
This new installation is expected to reduce flood risks for farmers and residents while boosting agricultural productivity by ensuring more reliable irrigation during wet periods.
The completion of the pump station is one of several infrastructural upgrades designed to support the region’s development and strengthen its agricultural sector.
