The Acme Housing Scheme in Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo, witnessed a momentous occasion as 49 families were granted land titles, providing them with peace of mind and the security of tenure.
President Dr. Irfaan Ali personally handed over the titles during a ceremony on Friday afternoon.
The house lots distributed in the Acme Housing Scheme were regularized through the government’s ‘Operation Clear-up’ initiative.
This effort seeks to address and resolve outstanding land title issues by regularizing areas wherever possible, ultimately fostering increased occupancy within communities and promoting nationwide home ownership.
The Acme Housing Scheme in Vergenoegen is divided into two sections: the Vergenoegen Railway Embankment, comprising 64 lots, and Vergenoegen South of the Railway Embankment, with 86 lots, totaling 150 lots in all.
President Dr. Irfaan Ali highlighted that the distribution of the 49 lots on Friday is part of the first cohort to be awarded to residents in the region.
Additionally, he disclosed that out of the total 150 lots, 94 residential lots are eligible for allocation, which will be awarded by the end of the following week.
Housing and Water Minister Collin Croal also shared positive news, revealing that further opportunities for land ownership are in the works for residents of region three.
Currently, approximately 139 lots are undergoing regularization, ensuring that more families will soon have the chance to own their own homes in the area.
The government’s commitment to addressing land title issues is a significant step towards creating stronger communities and fostering a sense of ownership and stability for citizens across the nation.
