$480M Allocated for Road Rehabilitation in Kwakwani as Residents Welcome Development

The Guyanese government has reaffirmed its dedication to enhancing infrastructure in Region 10 by committing $480 million to rehabilitate approximately 21.6 kilometers of roads crucial for community access in Kwakwani.

This initiative aims to bolster local growth and economic progress across the region.

Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill, announced the allocation during a recent visit to Kwakwani, underscoring the importance of these upgrades for improving connectivity to essential services such as schools, health centers, the police station, and other public amenities.

Residents of Kwakwani expressed their appreciation for the government’s initiative, highlighting its potential to significantly enhance local infrastructure and foster community development.

Parris Archer, a councilor of the Kwakwani Neighbourhood Democratic Council (KNDC), conveyed his support for the project, emphasizing its timely significance for the community.

Orlando Johashen, Chairman of the KNDC, echoed these sentiments, noting the positive impact the road rehabilitation will have on local residents and businesses.

Avril Walker, a resident of Hururu, praised the government’s proactive approach in addressing infrastructure needs, reflecting the community’s anticipation for improved connectivity and economic opportunities.

The rehabilitation project will utilize a combination of materials including Asphaltic concrete, laterite, and reinforced concrete.

VG Group Incorporated has been contracted for $82 million to rehabilitate internal roads and drains within Kwakwani.

Additionally, Jemcorp Engineering and Imports secured $225 million for the construction of the Kwakwani waterfront road, while Orin’s Supreme Enterprise will undertake the rehabilitation and construction of the Orella to Kwakwani road as part of Phase 4.

This significant investment underscores the government’s commitment to infrastructure development, aiming to bolster economic growth, enhance connectivity, and improve the overall quality of life for residents in Kwakwani.
