The Ministry of Labour, through the Board of Industrial Training (BIT), has commissioned a new $44.8 million training center in New Amsterdam, Region Six, aimed at enhancing technical and vocational education in the region.
The facility is expected to provide a more conducive learning environment for trainers and trainees participating in BIT programs.
Officials at the commissioning ceremony emphasized the center’s role in equipping individuals with practical skills to improve employability and contribute to workforce development.
Regional authorities noted that the investment aligns with the government’s broader mandate to expand skills training opportunities nationwide.
In addition to the New Amsterdam facility, a training center is under construction in Corriverton, while other centers are being developed in Regions 1, 3, and 7, with a facility in Region 4 currently undergoing renovations.
According to BIT, 2,571 individuals have been trained in Region Six over the past four years through 109 programs, with a total investment of $185 million.
The expansion of training centers is part of ongoing efforts to improve access to technical education and strengthen workforce readiness across Guyana.
