The Ministry of Health has officially opened a $38 million health center at Chesney on the Corentyne, bringing enhanced healthcare access to residents of the Chesney Housing Scheme and nearby communities.

This marks a significant milestone in expanding medical services to the area.

The newly commissioned health center is fully equipped with essential facilities such as a pharmacy, vaccination room, consultation rooms for doctors, nurses’ stations, and kitchen and washroom amenities.

These features are designed to ensure comprehensive and efficient healthcare delivery to the community.

During the opening ceremony, Minister of Health Dr. Frank Anthony highlighted that this is the third health center commissioned in Region Six this year, underscoring the government’s commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure.

He also emphasized the government’s investment in modern healthcare facilities across the region, including a new regional hospital at Number 75 Village and another in New Amsterdam.

Regional Chairman David Armogan echoed the government’s efforts to bring healthcare directly to the people, reinforcing the importance of community-based services.

The Chesney Health Center will be staffed with a medic and nurses who will address a variety of medical needs, including care for chronic illnesses.

This new facility is expected to ease the pressure on larger regional hospitals, providing residents with more immediate and accessible healthcare.
