2nd Annual Mayor’s Cup Basketball to Bounce Off in Linden on Saturday

The Department of Education in Region 10 is gearing up to host the second annual Mayor’s Cup basketball tournament as part of Education Month activities.

The Under-15 tournament will see seven secondary schools from the region compete for cash prizes and trophies.

The event kicks off on Saturday, September 21, and will run until Friday, October 11, with games being held at the Mackenzie High and Amelia’s Ward Hard Courts in Linden.

Acting Regional Education Officer, Dawn McCammon Barker, is coordinating the tournament, emphasizing the core values of teamwork and community participation.

Participating schools include New Silvercity Secondary, Christianburg Wismar Secondary, Wisburg Secondary, Harmony Secondary, Mackenzie High, Linden Foundation Secondary, and Kwakwani Secondary School.

This year, the focus is on Under-15 players, contrasting with last year’s Under-21 format.

The tournament will be divided into two groups:

  • Group A: Mackenzie High School (MHS), Wisburg Secondary, New Silvercity Secondary (NSS), and Linden Foundation Secondary (LFS).
  • Group B: Kwakwani Secondary, Harmony Secondary, and Christianburg Wismar Secondary School (CWSS).

The opening match will feature Mackenzie High School against Linden Foundation Secondary at 14:30, followed by Wisburg facing off against New Silvercity Secondary.

Additional games will include MHS vs. Wisburg and Kwakwani vs. Multi to round off the day’s action.
