2024 MVP Sports Girls U-11 Football Competition Kicks Off

The highly anticipated 2024 MVP Sports Girls Pee Wee U-11 Football Competition was officially launched at MVP Sports’ flagship store at Giftland Mall.

This year, the competition is set to bring together girls’ football teams from across Guyana, vying for the title of the top pee wee team in the country.

With MVP Sports as the primary sponsor, the tournament has expanded to feature teams from various regions.

In addition to teams from Georgetown, the competition will include representatives from Linden, Region 7, and Region 1.

The participating schools include One Mile Primary (Linden), St. John the Baptist Primary, Batavia and Potaro Primary (Region 7), Friendship Primary (Region 4), Genesis Academy (Region 3), and Warmuri Top (Region 1).

A total of nine teams from Georgetown will also compete, including Tucville, Stella Marris, West Ruimveldt, North Georgetown, and FE Pollard.

MVP Sports owner, Ian Ramdeo, expressed the company’s commitment to supporting the growth of female football in Guyana, acknowledging the important work done by the Petra Organization in developing youth football.

The Petra Organization’s Co-Director, Troy Mendonca, highlighted the growing prominence of women’s football and emphasized the value of providing more opportunities for young female players.

The tournament will feature a round-robin phase, followed by knockout rounds.

Teams will be divided into groups of four, with the top two from each group advancing to the quarterfinals, then semifinals, and ultimately the final.

The champion will receive $100,000 in kind, along with trophies and medals.

Second place will earn $75,000, third place $50,000, and fourth place $25,000, with trophies awarded to all winners.

In addition to the team prizes, individual awards will be given to the top goal scorer, MVP, and best goalkeeper.

Marian Academy, the defending champion, will be looking to retain its title.

The tournament is set to kick off on Saturday and will continue for several weeks, showcasing the talents of young female football players from across the country.
