Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Governance, Gail Teixeira, has reflected on the productive year in Parliament, highlighting the significant achievements of 2024.

In an interview with NCN News, she described this year’s parliamentary sittings as progressive, underscoring the tabling and passage of several key pieces of legislation.

Minister Teixeira emphasized that the focus of Parliament remains on addressing the concerns and interests of the Guyanese people, with an agenda centered on improving access to services and enhancing legislative frameworks for the nation’s development.

She noted that the ongoing efforts aim to modernize the legislative system to support Guyana’s transformation.

Teixeira also commended the dedication of parliamentary staff and members of the National Assembly for their hard work throughout the year.

The Minister noted that live streaming of parliamentary sittings and Public Accounts Committee (PAC) meetings has sparked increased public engagement and interest in the legislative process.

She expressed pride in the progressive nature of the parliament, despite occasional controversy, and affirmed that the standing orders and constitutional framework guide its operations.

Among the notable legislative achievements this year was the passage of the Land Acquisition Amendment Bill.

Additionally, the Guyana Parliament hosted several high-profile delegations, including a visit from India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

As Parliament wraps up its activities for the year, Minister Teixeira reaffirmed the commitment to continuing to serve the needs of the Guyanese populace and drive progress in the nation’s legislative affairs.
