Outgoing President of the Guyana Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (GBBFF), Keavon Bess, has hailed 2024 as a pivotal year for bodybuilding in the country, following the successful hosting of the Central America and Caribbean (CAC) Championship.

Guyana’s victory as overall champions at the event marked a significant achievement for the sport.

Bess attributed the success to the strong support received from key organizations, including the Ministry of Sport, Guyana Olympic Association, Fitness Express, Camille’s Academy, and Twins Manufacturing.

The combined efforts of these entities played a crucial role in the GBBFF’s success over the past year, contributing to an outstanding performance at the CAC and other competitions.

A standout moment for the sport in 2024 was the success of local athletes, with Emmerson Campbell securing his professional bodybuilding card at the CAC event held at the National Cultural Centre.

This follows a trend of local athletes earning pro cards, with Hanna Rampersaud, Nicholas Albert, and Rosanna Fung joining the ranks of professional bodybuilders in 2023 and 2022.

As his term as president concludes, Bess acknowledged the importance of ensuring a smooth transition of leadership within the GBBFF.

Despite his term ending before the hosting of the CAC, Bess was asked to remain in office to oversee the event.

However, he confirmed that the current executive members have all agreed to step down, and elections for new leadership will be held in the coming year.

Bess expressed confidence that 2024’s achievements will leave a lasting impact on the sport, setting a strong foundation for future successes.
