2023 Junior National Badminton Tournament Kicks Off

In collaboration with the National Sport Commission, the Guyana Badminton Association has officially launched the 2023 Junior National Badminton Tournament at the National Gymnasium.

The three-day event, concluding on Saturday, features young players in the under-19, under-15, and under-11 categories competing in singles, doubles, and mixed doubles matches.

Director of Sport, Steve Ninvalle, expressed the importance of such competitions for the growth of the sport.

He commended the young participants for showcasing their skills and emphasized that badminton has been designated a priority core sport due to its high level of organization.

Ninvalle encouraged the organizers to continue their efforts in expanding the reach of badminton.

In the under-19 boys’ singles matches, notable victories were secured by Jedidiah Uwagboe, Jonathan Robinson, Raah Russell, Adeeb Zaman, and Haresh Persaud.

In the girls’ under-19 singles, Leshaunte Berkley triumphed over Tyra Gomes, and Genvieve Bookram prevailed against Charisma Etwardoo.

The under-15 boys’ singles featured Lamar Lewis defeating Adriel Persaud, while Sergio Alexander overcame the challenge of Mohamed Farouk.

Avinash Ramnarine and Egan Bulkan also secured victories. On the girls’ side, Malia Haley triumphed over Aaliyah Bacchus, and Gabrielle Felix bested Gianna Ramnarine.

Haley and Felix returned to secure additional wins.

In the under-11 category, Joel Rambiriche and Ethan Bulkan emerged as winners in the boys’ singles, while Riyo Alexander clinched victory in the girls’ category.

The tournament culminates with the finals on Saturday, commencing at 10 a.m.
