Fifteen new graduates of the Marine Cadet Programme were urged to take their roles as marine officers seriously and be prepared for the dynamic nature of the maritime sector.

This message came from Minister of Public Works, Hon. Juan Edghill, during the graduation ceremony at Herdmanston Lodge on Thursday.

Among the graduates was Safina Lutchman, the lone female in the group, who shared her journey of overcoming the unique challenges of working in a male-dominated field.

Lutchman expressed pride in being the first female graduate of the MATPAL Marine Institute, viewing her achievement as the first step toward greatness.

Minister Edghill emphasized the rigorous training the cadets underwent, which will equip them to effectively navigate the growing maritime sector.

He reminded the graduates that their journey doesn’t end with graduation, noting that the maritime world is constantly evolving with new technologies and challenges.

Edghill expressed full confidence in their preparedness to tackle these challenges head-on.

The ceremony highlighted the importance of integrity in the maritime profession, underscoring the responsibility each cadet holds as they enter this crucial sector.
