December 6, 2024

A total of 148 individuals from Region 10 graduated from the Ministry of Labour’s Board of Industrial Training (BIT) programs in various technical fields.

The graduation ceremony took place today at the Watooka Guest House.

Minister of Labour, Joseph Hamilton, addressed the graduands, emphasizing that the event was the result of providing equal opportunities across all regions of Guyana.

He highlighted that between 2020 and 2024, approximately 13,000 people have been trained nationwide, with 1,200 of them from Region 10 alone.

Notably, 518 of these trained individuals were women, with the BIT program being led by three women in the ministry.

Minister Hamilton urged the graduates to remember that they were providing a valuable service and encouraged them to remain mindful of their humble beginnings.

He emphasized the importance of discipline, consistency, and the ability to be multi-talented in order to achieve success.

Richard Maughn, CEO of the Board of Industrial Training, congratulated the graduates on their resilience and dedication, noting that their achievement was just the beginning of their journey.

Maughn reminded them that in an ever-evolving world, it was essential to continuously develop their skills, think critically, and adapt to changes in the workforce.

One of the graduates, Judith Grenville, who completed a course in Interior Decoration, expressed her joy at overcoming the challenges of the program with the support of her children.

Of the 148 graduates, 49 were from Sub Region 2, further demonstrating the widespread participation in the training programs.

The ceremony underscored the ministry’s commitment to empowering individuals with marketable skills to enhance their employability and contribute to the region’s economic growth.
