The National Assembly has approved $141.45 billion in budgetary allocations for the Office of the Prime Minister, paving the way for significant advancements in the Gas-to-Energy (GTE) project at Wales and the electronic identity card (e-ID) initiative.
Of the total sum, $51.2 billion has been allocated for the second phase of the GTE project, which is now moving into its final construction stages.
According to Prime Minister Mark Phillips, the main construction components, including civil works and foundational structures, are progressing, with the remaining tasks focused on assembling critical infrastructure.
Additionally, $36.2 billion has been earmarked for the construction of a natural gas power plant and a natural gas liquid plant, while over $1 billion is designated for project consultancy services and related expenditures.
The budget also includes funding for the electronic identification (e-ID) project, which has faced scrutiny over delays.
The project, which was contracted in March 2023, remains on schedule, with implementation expected by June 2025.
A total of $1.4 billion has been allocated to further its development.
With these budgetary approvals, both the GTE and e-ID projects are set to progress as part of the government’s broader infrastructure and digital transformation agenda.
