One hundred and thirty-four residents of Region Six have earned certification after successfully completing a series of training courses offered by the Board of Industrial Training (BIT).

The graduation ceremony, held at Out Back Adventure in Canje, Berbice, celebrated the achievements of the participants who trained in various fields, including agro-processing, welding and fabrication, refrigeration and A/C repairs, cosmetology, commercial food preparation, and information technology.

During the ceremony, Region Six Regional Democratic Council (RDC) Chairman David Armogan highlighted the importance of such training programs in addressing the skilled labor shortages in East Berbice-Corentyne.

Armogan stressed that qualifications in technical fields, particularly those related to machinery and heavy-duty operations, could lead to numerous job opportunities in the region.

He emphasized that businesses are consistently reporting a shortage of skilled labor in the area.

Minister of Labour Joseph Hamilton also congratulated the graduates and urged them to apply their newly acquired skills in the workforce.

Hamilton revealed that his ministry had invested 182 million Guyanese dollars in Region Six to support the training initiatives.

He noted that much of this investment circulated within the region, benefiting local trainers and suppliers, further boosting the regional economy.

The training programs are designed to equip individuals with practical skills that will not only improve their employability but also contribute to the region’s economic development.
