Minister of Human Services and Social Security Dr. Vindhya Persaud oversaw the distribution of 132 spectacles to residents of Region 10 as part of an eye care initiative.
This collaborative program between the Ministry of Human Services and the Ministry of Health complements the existing voucher spectacle distribution program, which caters to schoolchildren and pensioners.
The distribution event, held at the Letitia Holder Health Centre in Amelia’s Ward, saw residents expressing gratitude for the government’s efforts to improve health and wellbeing across the country.
The program also reached Ituni, where 25 spectacles were distributed earlier.
Recipients lauded the initiative, with many highlighting its positive impact on their lives.
One beneficiary, Ronella Morrison, praised the program’s accessibility, stating, “It’s good that they came to Linden…continue doing the good works.”
Kathleen De Lcruz shared her appreciation, saying she was “thankful for receiving [spectacles] for herself and her two daughters.”
Another recipient, Tracy Peters, described the initiative as a “pleasure,” expressing gratitude for the government’s support.
This effort aligns with the government’s broader healthcare objectives, aiming to enhance access to essential services for citizens in all regions of Guyana.
