The Ministry of Public Works has completed 126 roads in South Georgetown, with ongoing work on additional road projects in the area.
These efforts are part of a larger infrastructure development plan overseen by the Ministry’s Special Projects Unit.
The total length of the completed roads spans 33.6 kilometers, with approximately GYD $716 million expended on these improvements.
Public Works Minister Juan Edghill recently inspected several of the completed roads, including those in Alexander Village, East Ruimveldt, East La Penitence, West Ruimveldt, West La Penitence, Charlestown, Roxeann Burnham Gardens, Rasville, and Shirley Field Ridley.
The Minister expressed satisfaction with the progress made and highlighted the positive reception from residents.
However, further work remains, such as allowing concrete to cure fully before striping can begin.
In Roxeann Burnham Gardens alone, 14 roads were completed, covering 3.4 kilometers at a cost of GYD $76 million.
Shirley Field Ridley saw the completion of two roads, totaling 0.7 kilometers, with a price tag of GYD $15.6 million.
Community members have commended the government’s efforts in improving road conditions.
Residents of Rasville and Roxeann Burnham Gardens, where the roads have been significantly upgraded, praised both the quality of the work and the safety measures implemented, including the installation of speed bumps.
Edghill emphasized that road improvements across Lodge and surrounding areas are also underway, further enhancing connectivity and accessibility within South Georgetown.
These roadworks are part of a broader strategy to enhance infrastructure and improve living conditions in various communities across the country.
