A cohort of 113 new midwives have successfully graduated from the Ministry of Health’s Health Sciences Education (HSE), Midwifery Training Programme, as part of strengthening maternal and newborn care across Guyana.
Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony, while delivering the keynote address congratulated the graduates and further highlighted the Government’s commitment to expanding infrastructure in the health sector, and also improving service delivery by building a more trained workforce.

The Minister reminded the new cohort of midwives that it is essential to provide the best attitude and service delivery as midwives since their major responsibility entails caring for both mothers and newborns.
Throughout the two-year training programme, the graduates developed core competencies essential to modern midwifery practices, including clinical proficiency, effective communication, and critical thinking.
Some other subjects included: Obstetrics, Maternal and Child Health, Family Planning, Health Promotion and Education, and Public Health and Community Care.
