The distribution of the $100,000 cash grant announced by President Irfaan Ali commenced today in Region Eight, benefiting residents of Mahdia, Princeville, and Campbelltown.
The initiative was officially launched by Minister of Amerindian Affairs Pauline Sukhai in Mahdia, where representatives from the Bank of Guyana facilitated the cashing of cheques to ensure a seamless process for recipients.
Approximately $200 million will be injected into Region Eight’s economy through this initiative, which aims to provide financial relief to communities across the country.
The disbursement process follows an earlier statement by Vice President and PPP General Secretary Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, who outlined the distribution schedule for regions.
Region Nine was the first to benefit, with Regions Eight and One following, and Region Four next in line.
A second round of distributions will be held in Region Eight to accommodate those who missed today’s session.
The nationwide cash grant distribution is expected to span at least five months, reaching eligible recipients across all regions.
