In a historic move to bolster infrastructure development in Region 10, the Government of Guyana signed road contracts worth $1.9 billion with 84 small contractors.
The agreements, aimed at constructing roads in Kwakwani, Ituni, and Coomacka Mines, were formalized under the leadership of Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips and Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill.
This initiative fulfills a promise made by President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali during a visit to the region last year.
It highlights the administration’s commitment to fostering local development and empowering small contractors in Guyanese communities.
As part of the project, 21 asphaltic concrete roads will be built in Kwakwani.
To facilitate these works, the government plans to establish a mobile asphalt plant in the area and a concrete plant in Ituni, ensuring efficient supply chains for contractors.
Prime Minister Phillips emphasized the government’s dedication to working with local leaders to further regional progress.
He reiterated that these projects align with the administration’s broader development goals outlined in their manifesto.
Minister Edghill highlighted the tangible impact of these investments, noting how they contribute to improved infrastructure and economic opportunities for residents.
Over the past four years, the government has invested heavily in Guyana’s infrastructure, signaling a steadfast commitment to enhancing livelihoods and connectivity across the country.
The signing ceremony underscores the government’s focus on equitable development, ensuring that all Guyanese benefit from the nation’s progress.
