The 2025 national budget, valued at 1.382 trillion dollars, was passed in the National Assembly last evening after two weeks of debate and consideration of the estimates.
The budget, presented on January 17, 2025, under the theme “A Secure, Prosperous, and Sustainable Guyana,” outlines the government’s financial plans for the upcoming year.
Finance Minister Dr. Ashni Singh emphasized that the immediate priority following the passage of the budget is the execution of the policies and initiatives detailed within it.
He stressed that implementation is even more critical than the preparatory work leading up to the budget’s passage.
The government plans to swiftly begin the execution of its outlined objectives in the interest of the Guyanese people.
Minister Singh also highlighted the government’s strong track record of successfully executing its budgets, fulfilling commitments, and honoring promises.
He noted that 2025 would follow the same trajectory, building a foundation for a secure, prosperous, and sustainable future for Guyana.
The 2025 budget represents a 20.6 percent increase over the previous year’s budget, totaling 1.3 trillion dollars.
A significant feature of the budget is the reduction in personal income tax from 28 percent to 25 percent, alongside an increase in the income tax threshold from 100,000 dollars to 130,000 dollars.
This move is expected to benefit taxpayers across the country.
Minister Singh expressed gratitude to the technical staff and his colleagues in the National Assembly for their efforts in getting the budget passed.
He remarked that the budget debates showcased why the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) is the best alternative to govern the country.
Looking ahead, Minister Singh noted that consultations across the country will continue in preparation for the 2026 budget cycle.
