Guyana welcomes teams competing in 53rd Senior Caribbean Table Tennis Federation

Prime Minister Samuel Hinds performing the duties of President today welcomed teams that are in Guyana for the 53rd Senior Caribbean Table Tennis Federation. He told the competitors that he hopes the games would lead to greater friendship and closer relations. Speaking at the opening Ceremony at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue, Prime Minister Hinds said, “We want people to come here and watch the games; we also want people to be motivated so they themselves take part in playing table tennis and other games.”
Also attending the event was Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Dr. Frank Anthony, President of Guyana Table Tennis Association, Henry Greene, Director of Sports, Neil Kumar, Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee, Minister of Labour, Manzoor Nadir and President of the Caribbean Regional Table Tennis Federation, Juan Vila. Minister Anthony congratulated the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) for hosting the event which he said can assist in boosting sport tourism.
“We in Guyana are very proud of hosting international tournaments and this is something the government has been encouraging.”
Dr. Anthony stated that Guyana looks forward to a stronger partnership with the Caribbean Table Tennis Federation association.
President of the GTTA, Henry Greene noted that Guyana has put its best foot forward by ensuring that the competition was hosted at late notice. He said that the association has been making a significant effort to promote table tennis in schools, homes, organisations and all parts of Guyana and encouraged persons to be part of the GTTA.
Caribbean Table Tennis Federation’s president Juan Vila expressed gratitude to the GTTA and the Government of Guyana for organizing the event. Among the countries competing are Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Haiti, Guadeloupe, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, St. Vincent, St. Lucia, and St. Kitts. (GINA)
