Taxi Driver found dead in car

A taxi driver fell prey to what appears to be a Robbery and Homicide after midnight on Thursday when an unidentified person hired him to go to Plaisance. The driver’s body was discovered this morning slumped over in his car which was in a trench.

Police are investigating the murder of forty nine year old Marc Small of David Street Kitty. Small, a taxi driver attached to the GT Express Taxi Service Was found murdered in his car at Goedverwagting East Coast Demerara.

According to a source close to the investigation, small was strangled before being stabbed six times in the neck, chest, forehead and back. According to investigations, the victim had radioed the dispatcher on duty just after midnight on Thursday saying that he had located a passenger and was heading to Plaisance.

However after a prolonged period of non communication the dispatcher tried to contact him however her calls went unanswered. Meanwhile, NCN has learnt that Kunta Thornhill a Green Ice Taxi Driver, who was working in the area, discovered the body.

Thorn Hill says while using the main road he saw the car in the trench with the driver side door wide open but did not know what service it belonged to. He immediately, using the number that was on the rare of the car, placed a call to the base relating what he had seen.

The dispatcher hearing this quickly alerted the Police around 3:45hrs and they immediately began a search for small. The man was later found slumped over in his car. According to information the taxi driver after being attacked may have tried to drive away but ended up overboard. The man valuables, his driver’s license and the radio set from the car were all stolen.

Meanwhile taxi drivers at the service say they did not really know him since he was recently hired, however he was previously employed at GUYOIL as a Security Guard/Driver.

On Friday morning when NCN visited the scene police had arrested a man who was seen looking very suspicious in the area.
