“We are in a situation where the opposition has not only disappointed us on the government side but disappointed the people of this country and they showed that they are not in favor or not willing to stand by their own words of one cooperation and two putting that they are putting Guyana first, this shows that they are not putting Guyana first. “
Ms. Teixeria also pointed out that A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) failed in its bid for the approval of some $2.7M that was utilized by the office of the prime minister for transportation purposes to visit hinterland locations under its electrification program.
This she said, is a clear indication that APNU is reneging on promised made to the Guyanese people by failing to support such funding aimed at developing the hinterland regions.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister, Dr. Ashni Singh pointed out that such behaviour will have implication on any tripartite discussions.
“I can see this showing of hands as I described it this clear manifest unreasonableness on the part of the opposition will inevitably have an impact or implication in the context of the tripartite discussions because those involved in the tripartite discussions will inevitably have to question the sincerity of the opposition.”
The combined opposition APNU and the Alliance For Change are being criticized by the government for using their majority in the parliament to derail the governments development thrust. At last Thursday’s sitting the opposition deferred Financial paper no. 8 which dealt with donor funding and projects for national development.
